COLORADO, September 26, 2007 ... Wolf Creek Pass was a very challenging route to Royal Gorge, but absolutely beautiful and worth every turn in the road. The pass travels along the Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge. We have learned that Colorado does not believe in guard rails. We caught a glimpse of a beautiful hot air balloon along the way.

CANON CITY, CO, September 27, 2007 ... The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was just 1/2 mile from the RV park. We spent an enjoyable day there. A rather unique bridge and park. The Royal Gorge Bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge hanging 1,053 feet above the wild Arkansas River, the incline railway to the bottom of the gorge is an engineering marvel featuring a 45 degree angle which is the worlds steepest incline railway descending over 1,500 feet to the canyon floor, the tram is the world's longest single span aerial tram gliding more than 1,100 feet above the canyon floor, a Waterclock which is one of only three in the world, and the rarest of all ... the white buffalo (with two white calves).

Pikes Peak ... America's Mountain

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, September 28, 2007 ... A truly amazing mountain. 76 degrees at the bottom. 26 degrees at the top. At 14,110 feet at the summit you are in the clouds. Once again, Colorado does not believe in guard rails. The drive up consisted of some paved road and some dirt road. It is impossible to keep paved road all the way to the top because of the extreme weather conditions. Pikes Peak Highway is 19 miles long but takes two hours to drive as it winds in all directions. Once at the summit you are treated to 360-degree vistas of the surrounding countryside, with views of four states. In fact, the beauty of the summit inspired Katherin Lee Bates to pen the words to American the Beautiful. The fall foilage was at it's peak.

Cripple Creek Day Trip

CRIPPLE CREEK, CO, September 29, 2007 ... Cripple Creek, the world's greatest gold camp, is a quaint town in the Rocky Mountains. Abandoned mining camps littered the countryside along the way to Cripple Creek. Gold is still being mined in the area. Dakota enjoyed running through the open range (cow fields) along the way.
